De diplomatieke dienst van de EU (EEAS) is nog steeds ver verwijderd van haar eigen doel om over vier jaar 40 procent van de senior functies aan vrouwen toe te wijzen. Op dit moment hebben mannen 87 procent van de senior managementfuncties en 75 procent van de functies op middenmanagement niveau. Dit is problematisch. De EU moet de leiding nemen om wereldwijd de strijd voor gendergelijkheid te voeren. Vrouwelijk leiderschap is hierin essentieel.
Samen met collega’s van Renew Europe schreef Samira Rafaela een brief aan Josep Borell waarin zij hem verzoeken zich in te zetten voor meer vrouwelijk leiderschap binnen de EEAS.
