On the 21st of August, the European Union and the United States reached an agreement on lowering import tariffs on certain products. The EU abolishes existing import tariffs on lobster products whereas the United States halves the tariffs on a number of products including glassware, lighters and prepared mails. Samira Rafaela has asked the European Commission a number of questions with regard to this agreement as the Commission’s press statement raised more questions than answers. For example on the possible impact of such a deal on the American elections, which criteria the Commission uses in its assessment on which products tariffs can be removed and whether these kinds of mini deals will become part of the EU’s trade policy.
