The Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Award was presented on December 16.

The nominees included economist Barbara Boomsma, presenter Fidan Ekiz, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and MEP Samira Rafaela. On the evening of the ceremony it was announced that Samira would receive the International Woman of the Year 2020 award. The jury gave the motivation that 2020 has turned out to be an important first year in Samira’s term as a Member of the European Parliament. Standing up for injustice on issues such as security, peace, international cooperation and social equality mattered more than ever this year and Samira’s role did not go unnoticed.
