European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU’s diplomatic service, is still far from reaching its target of 40 percent women in senior positions by 2025. Currently, men hold 87 percent of senior management and 75 of middle management posts. This is problematic. The EU has a leading role in achieving gender equality globally through its external action. Female leadership is essential in setting an example and empowering women and girls across the globe.

Together with colleagues from Renew Europe, Samira Rafaela has posed questions to Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Police, asking him to step up his efforts to achieve gender parity in senior positions in the EEAS.
