A tragedy is unfolding in Afghanistan as the Taliban is seizing control over the country. Under the taliban regime, Afghan women and girls will go back to the living conditions of 2001 when they were systematically denied access to education, employment, and freedom of movement. The European Union must act decisively to avert further tragedy and use all possible means to protect the women and girls in Afghanistan from attacks and repression by the Taliban.
Samira Rafaela asks the President of the European Council to urge Member States to guarantee a safe exit for for anyone, and women and girls specifically, at risk of being targeted by the Taliban and to be generous in granting asylum to those in need.
