Europarlement walgt van toeslagenaffaire: ‘Schandvlek in de geschiedenis van de rechtsstaat’
Het Europese Parlement walgt van het Nederlandse toeslagenschandaal. Europa moet alles in het werk stellen om te voorkomen dat zich waar dan ook in Europa ooit nog dergelijke vormen van institutioneel racisme voordoen. In een plenair debat vanavond, aangevraagd door Samira Rafaela (D66), kreeg zowel politiek Den Haag als Brussel er fors van langs. Nederlandse en andere Parlementsleden van links tot rechts hadden geen goed woord over voor de Nederlandse overheid, die duizenden gezinnen in het ongeluk stortte en veel gedupeerden nog steeds niet schadeloos heeft gesteld.
Einde loonkloof tussen vrouwen en mannen
De EU-lidstaten en het Europees Parlement hebben een akkoord: er komen nieuwe Europese regels die de loonkloof tussen vrouwen en mannen hard gaat aanpakken. Werknemers krijgen meer transparantie over salarissen. En bedrijven die discrimineren en ongelijk verlonen, kunnen boetes krijgen. Samira Rafaela (D66), die namens het Europees Parlement hoofdonderhandelaar was, vat het plan samen: ‘’Werknemers krijgen toegang tot de juiste informatie om te beoordelen of zij een eerlijk salaris ontvangen. Als er geconstateerd wordt dat dit niet zo is, hebben zij een sterke juridische positie om voor hun rechten op te komen.”

The targets will result in greater possibilities for women, for equal participation and equal say in our economy’’.
Stronger, fairer, and greener: the modernised eu-chile association agreement suits our time
The European Commission has today announced the political conclusion of the negotiations on the modernisation of the trade part of the EU-Chile Association Agreement. Renew Europe welcomes this modernisation which is necessary to reflect current challenges and modern conceptions of rules-based trade. Indeed, The EU is Chile’s third largest trade partner, and its biggest foreign investor.
